IE Energy Club in conjunction with EDP Renovaveis and the IMBA team partnered together to send 23 students to visit a wind farm north of Madrid and to meet diverse members of the EDPR team. The trip was a great opportunity to learn more about wind energy, it’s markets and opportunities, and get familiarized with the actual equipment and creation of a wind farm. EDP’s operations group described the creation and operation of the 16-turbine wind park. They gave details on wind technology, provided insights into the
challenges of deploying wind, and answered many questions about the operation and income streams of the wind park. After a successful site visit, the group headed to EDP Revovaveis headquarters in Madrid to meet with members of the following EDP teams: investor relations, sustainability, energy management, corporate finance, and regulatory and market risk. These diverse perspectives gave interesting insight into the wind power industry and possible career paths.
IE Energy Club strives to share knowledge and educate the broader IE Business School Community with respect to current energy industry developments and trends. EDP Renewables is Europe’s and the world’s third largest wind energy company. They operate in several markets and are continuously expanding their business to new areas of the globe.
